Alcohol Related Bonds In Texas

If you are a new retailer of alcohol in the state of Texas you may be required to post a surety bond.  There are several different alcohol related bonds in Texas that you might be required to post including Conduct & Mixed Beverage Bonds.  We tell you more about each of those bonds below.

Conduct Surety Bond

One alcohol related bond you may need to post is either a $5,000 or $10,000 surety bond required by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.  The bond will guarantee that you will comply with the applicable laws of the commission.  The size of bond depends on your distance from a school.  If you are more than 1,000 feet from a school the bond amount is $5,000.  If you are less than 1,000 feet from a school the bond amount is $10,000.  To qualify for the bond you must provide a signed application and your business and personal indemnity.  The premium on the bond ranges from $100-250/year.

Performance Bond

This is either a $2,000, $4,000 or $6,000 bond that guarantees that you will conform with the TABC and the Rules of the Commission.  The premium for the bond is typically $100/year.

Mixed Beverage Sales Tax Bond

Another alcohol related bond in Texas that you may need to post is a Mixed Beverage Sales Tax Bond. This bond is $3,750 or more depending on your sales.  The bond guarantees that you will remit your tax payments to the Comptroller of Texas.  The bond is a 2 year bond.  The premium starts at $100 but depends on the amount of the bond that is required.

Mixed Beverage Gross Receipts Bond

This alcohol related bond amount is also required by the Comptroller of Texas.  The bond amount is $3,750 or more depending on your sales.  It guarantees timely payment of all taxes, interest and penalties.  And the bond is a 2 year bond and the premium also starts at $100.
